General Finish makes a Java/expresss gel stain. Also comes in black. My daughter used and did new granite countertops. It looks so modern and updated.

Refacing only makes sense if you like the layout and function of your cabinets.

If it's in the budget and you are not going to change the layout, I would go with new cabinets and a counter depth refrigerator so it doesn't jut out into the space. If you are going to update the countertops make sure you like whatever you decide on the cabinets first. Also consider if there are any options for opening it up to the living space to take advantage of the light coming into the dining room/kitchen or to create more flow for entertaining if you like to do that.
