Corian countertops

We have Corian for our kitchen countertops that could stand to be rejuvenated (i.e., polished) after 15 years of use. They were originally done in a satin finish, but years of use have caused light scratches. Can we do this ourselves? If so, what is the best way? Is there a particular product out there we should use?

We've had Corian countertops for 27 years & it still looks brand new. For scratches I've used sponges with the rough backing, SOS pads, &/or very fine steel wool with dish detergent soap. Don't apply much pressure. Afterwards I just buff the area really well with pressure. This has worked successfully for me & was suggested when it was installed.

The misleading concept with Corian is being able to cut anything directly on it which is wrong & will scratch it.

Probably should enquire at Corian dealer or showroom..probably will require professional help to get noticeable results

Thanks, ritasj. I had already checked with a Corian dealer. I was hoping to hear if anyone had a DIY experience to share.

Well, I have Corian, but I haven't polished them in a really long time. Seems to me, if I remember correctly, they have stuff you can put on them to spiff them up.

If you can find a grey scotch brite pad, wet it down with water and liquid dish soap. Go in circular motion. Won't hurt to try and might save you some money. If you end up hiring a professional you might pay a couple of hundred dollars. We have a countertop fabricating business and that's our typical charge.

I keep thinking it was mineral oil.

I suppose that would work. Just need something to serve as a "lubricant". The oil won't soak in (as it would with soapstone) and might be a little "greasy" looking. I'll give it a try and see.

I think you're supposed to buff it to where it isn't greasy.

Your local Corian installer can come out and buff it back to new for around $250. You can purchase cutting boards in your colour to cut on instead of the countertop surface, and they blend right in with your existing tops.
