I've used casting to augment seed starter and I had really good success resurrecting some plants that I thought were dead. No doubt some of that had to do with nutrients and some had to do with moisture retention in the mixture.

Now Im ready to apply it to my outdoor tomato plants. Last year I applied traditional compost by packing globs of it around the base of the plant. I did the same thing with worm castings but it didn't really stick around. After a couple rains or weeks of water it looked like it all ran away. The consistency of compost is very different from castings obviously and I have a lot more of the traditional compost to work with

I know many people here are going to recommend compost tea. From all I've read it seems like the jury is still out on how well tea really works and what recipe is best. I's like to focus on how people apply surface treatments of castings to their plants.
