Cleaning ideas needed for Stucco-like shower walls

Our house has an open shower with some sort of plastered walls. The walls look rough and matte like the outside of typical stucco houses in AZ and CA. They don't have any sort of sealer on them and they are getting mildewed and stained. I have scrubbed them with spray bleach and a soft brush but I cant get rid of the soap streaks and other stains. How can I get them clean and keep them clean? Should I have them sealed?

did you recently buy this house? any idea how the previous owner dealt with them before? i'd say they need to be tiled....

The house was built in 2000 and we bought it in 2010. I doubt the previous owner did much of anything as the house was pretty dirty when we bought it. I have found stucco cleaners on the internet but they are specifically for outside applications.

i'd say to gather your pennies up for a real tile job, no idea what they might have had under the plaster.
