Cup pulls versus bar pulls

For those with cup pulls, do they get really dirty and/or grimy? I love the look of the 6" cup pulls I've picked out but I'm getting nervous that they'll be a bear to maintain with my 4 grubby boys (the lovely triplets who are 7 and their equally grubby brother who is 4). This is the cup pull and bar pull under current consideration

I love the look of both of them! I would think the cup pulls would more likely catch and store stuff in their hidden recesses.

I have both and don't notice a significant difference between the two. My four kids range in age from 5 to 14, if that helps.

I have both and don't notice a difference. However, my cup pulls have a satin finish. The ones you're considering with a shinier finish may show more fingerprints. A quick wipe with a damp microfiber cloth should take care of those easily enough. If you really love that style I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Get satin finish. How often will your kids be opening your cabinets? I can't imagine that much.

Are you suggesting swapping to satin just for ease of maintenance? Satin just screams so 'blah' to me on a personal level. But I can order a sample in the satin and see if it works. And there are a few cabinets/drawers that the kids get into repeatedly as I'm pretty big on teaching independence so they do a good bit in the kitchen.

Mine (with 4 kids) is a polished nickel finish. The bling is a nice bit of shine in my kitchen. :)

For aesthetics - either one is fine

For function - I think the pulls are better functionally. We have cup pulls at work and I don't know how many times my fingers have slipped off and, sometimes, painfully broke a fingernail. My nails grow fast and are pretty strong, so they are usually a bit longer than most people's...maybe they won't be an issue for you if your nails are very short. With a pull, I can loop my finger around the pull and there's no slipping.

Can y'all show us your cup pulls?

I love the bar pull you are considering, can you share who's the manufacturer?

Yeh_yeh the bar pull is the Atlas Ergo pull. It comes in a few different finishes and more importantly for me, comes in different lengths as well :)

If you have four boys in that age bracket, anything is going to get grubby periodically. Go with what you like!

I have a related question. I really love the look of cup pulls for my drawers, but was also contemplating a bar pull similar to the one posted above ( Top Knobs trunk pull.) I was planning on doing one or the other on drawers and then simple knobs on cabinets. But I kind of fell in love with the look of the trunk pulls vertically on the cabinets. Would it be weird to do those on the cabinets and the cup pulls on the drawers? It seems nobody mixes those two. Any thoughts? Thanks.

this cup pull but in satin nickel.

    here is the trunk pull

I'm having a hard time with this particular decision, too. I love those oil rubbed bronze cup pulls. They're so pretty. What company makes those, jenmendel?

My heart wants cup pulls....my brain is telling me I'll regret it and tire of turning my hand upside down to constantly open the drawer.

    Those are from Top Knobs.

We had cup pulls in our old kitchen and my hands never once got tired from using them! ☺️
