Need help for back of house and yard.

I recently had to take a beautiful huge tree from the yard because of the roots. It hid a lot of problems that I can see now. It also shaded the back of the house (west side). Where to start. To get immediate relief I thought about putting up retractable awnings. Would shutters on each side help or is the space on each end too small? Please I need some solutions.

You don't have room for shutters. You just need a little landscaping to screen the view because the yard is so bare now. You could finish your foundation hedge all the way across and add a small multi-trunked tree to the center of the yard. Or you could do a row of small trees or large shrubs along the drive.

Shutters are vertical in nature and will only cover the windows themselves so not recommended since you are looking for ideas to replace shade previously provided by the tree.
