First DWC system

Hi!

I’m an hydroponic’s beginner who try his first experiment in this fascinating colture.

I created a simple DWC system consisting of:

- 5 litre water tank;

- 3 hydroponics pots;

- 1 air pump ON 24/7;

I chose 3 different plants: wheat, greek basil (the one in the middle) and genovese basil.

The nutrient solution is prepared with the GHE flora series. Everyday I check EC and pH values (average values are EC=1.09 and pH=6.5).

The system is positioned outdoors, it receives light from 11:00 till 18:00.

Pictures show the plants after 9 days of cultivation.. what do you think about it? Do you have any suggestions?

Very nice! Did you germinate all these from seed? What kind of weather climate are you in and what temps are your resevoir at?

Thank you! The seeds are germinated in saturated rockwool cubes which were closed in a small box (in order to have the right values of heat and humidity). I live in Rome, and this period the weather is very hot and humid! I change the nutrient solution of my tank each 10 days.

Very nice set up. I am looking to do something similar in south Florida. However I have concerns about rain water contaminating or flooding the system. How do you deal with this?

I would place my DWC system under a transperant canopy to prevent any rain drops from flooding! You may use plexiglass sheets attached to treated redwood frame. :)
