Christopher Marlowe?

I ordered this rose and it bloomed today, but this does not look like Christopher Marlowe. I'm so disappointed :(

I wouldn't normally judge a rose by its first bloom, but this looks nothing like CM not even close it looks more like Tamora perhaps, but not Chris Marlowe

    Bummer. Where'd you get it?

K and M roses. And it wasn't cheap either. I'm sure they'll replace it. But I already planted it in the rose bed towards the front of the border. I'll have to move it because who knows how large it will get.

    Not CM. sorry. But pretty!

If you like it, and plan to keep it why not sent the nursery a photo so they can at least identify if for you and tell you its growth habit. You may not have to move it, and the nursery should at the very least know you were sent an incorrect rose.

Well, I don't hate it, but I really wanted Christopher Marlowe. I did notify the nursery (mail order) and I hope they will send me the correct rose. I feel bad because I know it will cost them more money to send me a replacement, and if I didn't already have Tamora, Perdita, Evelyn AND the shepherdess (all similar looking in color and form) I would keep it. But I was specifically looking for a brighter colored Austin. Roseich there really is no way this is Christopher Marlowe right? I know some fade in the heat, etc but this is just way off.

The nursery is in the process of sending me a refund. They told me that the entire batch was mislabeled but could not really ID the rose for me. I guess time will tell. It's got a few more buds on it so I'll take a look and see what those look like. Maybe we can identify the rose with the next few blooms.

Sorry SoFl I didn't see you had responded. I have Christopher Marlowe and he just bloomed. He is a coppery/orange/deep pink. I did not take a pic. Sorry! Very different from the above.

K and M does our society fundraiser in the spring. I got several misnamed roses. It's their mistake and a replacement is only fair! I agree with the above comment that you ought to send a photo and see if he knows what it is. He has quite a few roses!!!

I guess its difficult to keep track of large stocks of roses. K&M would not be the first to send out a mislabeled rose. LOL Oh well, it could be worse. But I do still want Christopher Marlowe, I'll see if they have it next season. I wish they would have a sale. Their roses are of excellent quality and I'd even say fair price, especially for what you get and on Fortuniana, but shipping is super expensive.

But to tell you the truth, its worth it. They carry a huge stock of Austins and besides Cool Roses here in Fl (which only has certain varieties and of limited stock) there really is no other source for Austins on Fortuniana.

I hear you on shipping! That's why it's great to have them trucked up here for the sale.

The Austin selection is good too!
