Camellia seeds and flower buds...

I'm seeing flower buds on some of my camellias already... 'Tick Tock' and 'Miss Charleston' for sure, but I haven't looked at my other plants.

Anyone who is interested in planting camellia seeds to see what comes up, now is the time to start looking for the seed pods. Some people say you should wait until the pods start to crack open while on the plant, but I can say from personal experience that you don't need to wait that long. I had a very good germination rate picking unopened seed pods, prying them open without damaging the seeds, then planting many seeds in large nursery pots in dirt that was very rich in organic material... Don't let the dirt dry out, but otherwise you can ignore it until you've got a pot that's crowded with camellia seedlings.
