One reallly can't be too sure about this without seeing the rest of the room, but with that dog and that painting and all those lovely books I couldn't ignore this dilemma. My immediate reaction below, then. Forgive me for not putting the brick texture on the dark green. I'm doing evening stuff where I am. Trying to think of the name of that green ...... anyone? I'd paint the brass near-black with that -- charcoal, I guess.

Paint the brass. Leave the brick. Lose the stack of books and the obelisk in front.
