Barstools are nice but from the photo it doesn't appear to me that there is comfortably enough room for them.

If you're set on getting them and you're ok walking around them, I think you should get ones w/o backs so they are less visually intrusive. If you use them just for entertaining but not every day, you could see if you could find a set of folding ones that you could stow away.

The countertop looks to narrow for barstools. You really need a minimum of 10-12 inches of overhang to use barstools (where are your knees and feet going to go). Plus there is not enough counter to do anything more than rest a drink. It is not enough to serve as a breakfast bar or anything. If I were going to use barstools here (which I would not do), I would replace the countertop here with something big enough to support barstools. If you are insistent on using barstools in this small area with this very narrow counter, I would get folding backless ones. This way the barstools can be tucked into a closet when not in use because they are going to look weird with that narrow counter.

I assumed you noticed your lack of counter overhang and were just looking to have barstools for social purposes just so a few people can sit/have a drink for a few minutes, and talk to someone in the kitchen (e.g. before dinner), so I didn't suggest going to the expense of replacing your countertop with one that would further impede traffic flow in that area.
