Shower Niche or corner shelves?

The niche looks so nice, but my coworker said it may be extra space for mildew buildup, thoughts?

Shower Niche!

You can get mildew in shelves or a niche. Just keep the shower and bathroom dry between uses.

Just make sure the tile installer makes it so the water drains off the niche. Shouldn't be a problem.
Also if you place the niche to the side and down from the shower head, water won't be hitting it.

We have a shower niche that's larger. It basically is in the shape of a T and has 3 shelves. The shelves are angled so very slightly so water drains. I did the back same tile as the floor to make it pop.

We have both. One niche and one corner shelf. Some people put in a 2nd, somewhat lower shelf for a woman to rest her foot on, to shave her legs, but I just use our shower seat.
