A couple crepe myrtles for color?

Where are you? It is impossible to suggest appropriate plants if we don't know region/environmental conditions. I would plant something with a cascading habit to soften the edges of those terraces. There are any number of possibilities, both deciduous and evergreen, in that category alone.

OP states he is in North Carolina in his first post. I do agree something cascading would be nice. We have trailing rosemary over our terraces. Looks nice and assists in erosion control. No clue if it grows well in North Carolina.
