It is normal for the very oldest leaf to go yellow and drop off and the whitish scar is probably sun damage. Overall, the orchid looks to be in pretty good condition.

The leave that is probably sun damage - is there nothing to do to prevent from further damage - should I move it away to another window? This Phal is placed together with another 2 Phals at the same east window and they are o.k.

Hi Ginger, Phals are low light orchids but filtered sun is beneficial. How much shading you need depends on your Latitude and even on how much humidity is in the air. Some will get a reddish tinge on the leaves others will not. Depends on the ancestry!

At latitude 33S mine are near a North Facing window with a blind rated at 80% outside and a matchstick blind inside the window. (It is near the end of winter and the sun is moving south so the sun will be blocked by the house awnings soon.) The phals will survive in bright light till it gets warm enough to put them "outside".

When I put them outside in a glass-house for summer. They will be a few centimeters above the Aisle Floor. The Hail Guard has 50% shadecloth. More 50% Shade-cloth just above the glass roof + dirty glass.

You need to get local info. re the amount of shading your Phalaenopsis need. As I said in Post 1 "the orchid is in pretty good condition" so only minor adjustment is needed to your orchid growing conditions.

I wish to know if it's the same like what we have here in germany where all windows are with roll blinds? Photo attached.

I have morning sun that comes right into the window sill. So I have the blinds shut till the level where the leaves get some sunlight. But I wonder does it matters if the flowers get enough of light?

The problem with these forums is that people live in all sorts of different climates so I cannot tell you exactly what is the correct amount of shading for Phalaenopsis where you live.

So I related what works at 33S where Phalaenopsis are regarded as difficult.

You are very close to getting the amount of light right and I can tell that by the colour of the leaves. So it might be a matter of just lowering that outside blind a little bit in summer.

As for the setting there in other seasons. All you have to guide you is the colour of the leaves.

Washed out lemon colour and sunburn. Too much light.

Deep green and sometimes soft floppy leaves. Not enough light.
