The dimension for a 55" tv may fit over your existing mantel. Install blinds on door to match windows and add some art over door to get door to align with height on window.

If TV is larger than the firebox place it somewhere else & hang a large painting to cover the inset. Hang grommet top or clip top drapes at the height of the ceiling which is at the right side of the room. Hang them the same height & just covering the casings. They will be easy to open/close. Go with ones matching the walls or close to matching.

Don't puddle them though. Just take to the floor.

Choose a low media center for the TV & make sure it extends wider than the TV at least by 3 feet.

I would not hang TV over FP. IF you would like to send dimensions of room and send photos of the entire room, I can do a floor plan for you. Do you have existing furniture that needs to go into room besides the TV or are you buying new?

I am not against TV's over the fireplace but I think you should use the long wall instead. This won't limit you to a certain size and will give you storage space for components. This will also allow for a better design for the fireplace. You could cover the hole and take it up to the ceiling.

I would fill in the inset above the FP with studs & drywall. I do not like it either. You could buy a FP surround on E-bay or craiglsit to just fit, however you are restricted by the room you have to either side. You may want a finish carpenter to give you an estimate.

There's too much going on on that wall already. A FP is overload. Plus you want a large TV. I'd place a console, bottom portion of a hutch, any kind of long low furniture you like on the wall w/the TV over it. Perhaps you won't want the TV so high. I don't know what the rest of the room is like or how your furniture is going to fit in, but you might want the TV on a low TV stand, to be comfortable when watching it.

Try doing a recessed panel above the door and with it with a recessed panel over the TV. Similar to photo attached but could be painted in any color

HI -- Ok I think it would be to your benefit and for the room to have that odd window on the right side , closed up and have the wall space for the TV mounted there . That whole area would look better and better to not have the TV above the fireplace . Think about it .

Agree with moving tv to longer wall. After you fill in the prior location above the fireplace, pop a gorgeous mirror to bounce more light into the room.

I am not against hanging TV over fireplace but with the door right there traffic could become an issue. I would either hang on long wall with console underneath for hiding wires. I would either hang or lean a large mirror to reflect light or art to add a pop of color, over the fireplace. I would also add a window seat with more storage under the window and add pillows for more color and texture.

The fireplace needs to be a stronger focal point. Extending the edges of the fireplace width to the ceiling will help. Adding a proper hearth extension will help "validate" the fireplace as well.

I'd suggest covering over the TV old opening. TV recesses are not future-proof, as you have realized.
