I'm having to water my cactus garden which I haven't done in years.

Not much rain here north of Greensboro, either. Town water supply lake is down so that you can see parts of the old buildings that were not removed when the lake was built. That part is always interesting. Shade plants are still OK, but sun plants are suffering. May not have good aster and Helianthus blooms this fall.

I forgot about my shade plants and have lost a couple of Heucheras! I've been watering containers that are close the house and my only shade tree is out on the corner by the road. Also neglected to water the roses out there too so they are getting some TLC now. I have a big yard.

The temperatures and lack of Rain!! I do not recall such a long dry period in the summer here!!

I went out of town for the weekend after watering all the plants thoroughly; or so I thought!! Well! I come back and what do I see??? Al the plants looked as if they were abandoned by their MOM!!!

I watered the plants this morning for about 3 hours.. really soaked them.

So, half the plants look much better.. the other half, Especially the Colocasia, is having a hard time recovering..:-( I am sure it will be ok!! We probably need to do a rain dance.

Hope everybody's plants survive this anomaly!! I am hoping that is what it is and it will start raining cats and dogs again!!

Hate to tell you but in the 15 years I have been interested in plants, the summers here have been more this like one. If we have rain in the fall and a good amount in the spring, however, most of my perennials recover. Just hate to lose those late summer blooms!

I am getting old !! hehe!!

One summer even my Christmas ferns totally wilted in the shade. Water restrictions started in the city. Then in Sept. we had rains from a hurricane. Everything filled up, and those ferns just popped back up. I was amazed at their resilience.

Even when it has rained elsewhere in the area, I am left high and dry!!

I am waiting for over a month now.. With no rain in my area.

I have a shallow well to boot.

The rain does wonders to the garden. all of them plants look like so happy.

I'm more with ncrescue on this. I have been here 10 years and I have seen many of those years with long gaps in rain. And its always hot. OTOH, in several past years, I felt like the rain was passing us by and raining over in the next community. This year, we got several rain doses when it was clear that others didn't, so we were doing OK until perhaps 10 days ago. But now we see at least another rainless week and things are very dry.

Ncrescue, are you referring to Lake Townsend?? Dd and I were talking about going there on Friday to walk around. Sounds interesting, but bad! A local weather guy posted a video showing the rain across the U.S. this year. There is a bubble of little to no rain over Greensboro, even compared to the rest of NC.

No, Lake Brandt, but I think all of the local lakes are low. The little one on our property is down.

I moved to an area between Pittsboro and Siler City, that is ~20mi S. E. of Greensboro 10 years ago. At the time, the whole south east was in moderate to severe drought and the whole country was showing similar issues. At the time, I subscribed to the New York Times. Soon after we arrived, the Times ran one of its extensive front page articles on national drought. Of course the article continued with extensive detail onto two more pages inside the first section. Of personal interest to me was the one map showing the entire mainland US with three blobs of dark and darker shaded areas where drought was severe. In the center of one of the darker areas, there was a dot. The only text on the entire US map was for that dot. It said Siler City!

On the way home from shopping, I went through HEAVY rain, which stopped less than two mi. from my house. Sigh.

big clouds rumbled by but you could read a newspaper outdoors with all the rain that fell. grrrrrrrr. At least the sun is blocked so stuff isn't drying out so bad today.

It sure made all the noise and then,... Nothing!!

I tell ya. I was all excited when i heard the rumble !!

I am hoping it rains tonight or tomorrow and praying for drenching the ground kinda rain!!

Its here! Around 5pm a nice shower, enough to really wet the ground, then two hours later another soaking shower a bit longer, and now the sky is beginning to rumble again from the west. I encouraged all those nice clouds to go east, and will encourage this coming one to do the same. My hope and prayer is that all these nice clouds will show up in the "other Carolina", and bring some real relief.

Woohoo! We got a decent amount of rain last night, and it is raining pretty good right now. We need tons more to get out of drought, but any little bit will help!

Lake Brandt, huh? I kind of want to see that...maybe I should make my way over there. I hope it fills up enough to cover the buildings, though, before I go.

Wow! Finally rain! 3+" so far, and it is still raining. Maybe Lake Brandt and the local water supply will be renewed??

Well it has cooled down for sure. I just need a break from watering the plants.. They seem so thirsty all the time..

THREE inches....wow! Dh is guessing we have gotten 1.5 inches or so (we are on the eastern part of town). I am glad it is raining more at the lake, though! Sabji, it will hopefully head your way!

Thanks Carolina flower for the good thought... I waited for it to happen for several days.. The weather man too kept giving hope!! It did get real dark and I was on I 40, Heavy Rain, rain everywhere, but in our area !! This year seems to be a dry year for me..it is playing a hop skip and a jump. :-(((

Oh no....I am so sorry! A few times this year, I would hear thunder and see clouds.....but the rain would literally stop a few streets away. It is frustrating, I know!

I real eye-opener for me was buying a rain gauge. The weatherman may say that Raleigh got 3 inches but I know I got just under a half inch. Same goes for thermometers. Plenty of times the news reported the nighttime lows that were different than mine at home.

You feel like an isolated home where nothing seems to match the weatherman's news! I did not get even that much and we are pretty close..I am in a donut this year:-(

The temps may have been hotter a few years ago... but the rain fall sure is deficit this time around at my place.. as you said the drought loving plants are wilting!!! They keep Saying"" Me, me Water! water.. thirsty !! "
