Why can't you have the switches for the bathroom lights on the outside of the bathroom and the outlets for hairdryers on the vanity?

There was an issue with the way the studs were placed and the place we could have put them would have been weird looking in the bedroom to do it that way. What we should have done was planned out exactly how the mirrors were going to go before putting in the electrical. But hindsight is always 20/20. Now I am stuck with this not ideal situation.

Especially with the doors opening INto the bathroom. That really does make that inside-the-bathroom placement of the switches awkward. But, an electrician should be able to fix that fairly easily, I would think.

I would have them low as possible; it won't be any more awkward that it already is and they'll be less conspicuous, and then I'd cover them with these: mirrored cover plates

Is it possible to change the swing of the doors by reversing them? I'd also look at a wireless remote control for the bath lights. Unfortunately, for convenience, you'd probably have to mount it on the wall you didn't want the switches on in the bedroom.

You could also look for motion activated switches, so you just have to pass by them to turn on the lights...

chispa the 2 way switch is not a bad idea for the main light.

Then I could leave the others as is. Since they are behind the doors you don't really see them anyway with the doors open. Mirror guy is waiting on me so I need to figure this out asap.

In some places, it violates code for the light switch to be outside the bathroom door. I'd go with motion sensors - we have them in all bathrooms and closets and they're great. They come on with motion and go off when there's no motion for a set amount of time.

sjhockeyfan325 We are putting them in all closets. I hadn't thought of bathroom. We have several lights in there so I guess main one on motion and the rest can be accessed from behind the door once you are in there. I think I will end up doing the mirror a bit smaller at least on one side to not have to put the switches in the mirror. But that's a whole other issue.

We are going to have to put the motion on the ceiling so that it detects us when we walk in I think.

I have a motion light in the windowless laundry room. That's the only room in the house that I'd want the light to come on EVERY time I walked in there. With all the natural light in that big beautiful bathroom, why would you want the lights to come on every time you entered the room?

The behind the door problem is created by using double doors. I have three sets of double doors. Two walk-in closet access doors and enclosed patio doors. All light switches are mounted to the entry wall and it was legal two years ago. However, you don't seem to want the switches on the outside wall or inside wall so there is no practical solution.

If you have to put them in a mirror, they do make mirrored switch plate covers.

So now I will have a 2 way switch and/or motion sensor to deal with the behind the door issue and the switch sideways under the mirror to solve the "I don't want switches in my mirror" problem.

Unless my GC or electrician can find a reason that this won't work.
