Ceiling fan with no chains?

We just moved into a house that has a ceiling fan/light combo with no pull chains, only on/off switches on the wall. And there are no holes where chains would have been. Has anyone seen such a fan and do you know the trick? Is it missing a remote that would require the necessity of buying a new fan?

yes our fan has a remote, no chains AND no switches. if you have recently moved in check all of the kitchen drawers/bathroom drawers/closet shelves for the remote. otherwise maybe you can find the model of the fan and order one.

if that was my fan it would be already gone. buy a white one so it doesnt draw your eye to the ceiling.

My two fans have two different kinds of switches, no remotes. What does your switch look like? Can you post a photo of it? Maybe I can help.

Three of my fans have switches on wall, power, fan, light, & reverse. The one in MB has power only wall switch and a remote to use fan/lights. All are Casablanca. Agree finding model # & manufacturer. Then contact them or retail store who carries the brand. Good luck

I would certainly try to get a remote before replacing the fan. Has to be a remote that will work with the receiver in the fan. Replacing can be down the line when you are finished fixing up the things you just can't live with! ;) The remote is probably in the bottom of a box in the previous owner's new house. They may find in a year or two!

We just had a ceiling fan installed. I did not realize there were ceiling fans that did not come with pull chains to control fan speeds and lights. We intentionally had the electrician wire it directly to an on/off switch for the fan. I was tired of chasing down the remote in my son's room. My daughter has a separate switch in her room for the fan and I much prefer this method. The room we installed it in has a three way switch. The electrician said he could wire it to use either the remote or the on/off switch - not both. I guess this means we will have to find a new fan. Expensive mistake. Had I realized that on/off meant permanently on monsoon speed I might have opted for the remote but would definitely have chosen a different fan.
