Better organization needed.

Any ideas? I am pulling it all out and starting over. The overall measurements are 4'5" x 10'.

Are you planning to reduce the number of things in the closet? A goal of reducing it by a third would probably give you room for updates. If so, I suggest doing it in three steps: shoes, hanging clothes, and drawers. Then sort what you want to keep into in-season and out of season.

Look for some good new LED lighting with "warm white" or even "daylight" bulbs. Try both kinds of bulbs to see what you prefer for most realistic colors.

apple_pie_order has a great idea for you. I suggest you take it into 3 further steps: what you will wear, what you might wear, what you will not wear. Be honest with yourself and don't hang on to things that have sentimental value but aren't right for you.

Separate in-season and out of season clothes. Under bed boxes are fabulous for out of season clothes and free up a great amount of space in your closet.

I'm guessing it's a bit tight getting to the back of the closet. If so, I would limit the shelves and hanging to two sides. On the empty wall (or behind the door assuming there is one), install cafe curtain rods for scarves. You can also install hooks for jewelry, hats, etc. Right now you're wasting valuable vertical storage. Invest in some clear plastic containers or label opaque containers and store out of season or less frequently used items on top of the shelving. Putting the hats and other items that are above your hanging storage into containers will make the space feel less crowded and overwhelming.

Note: I would use square storage containers vs the round ones pictured above.

I agree with the lighting I have a big window in mine and I love it for the natural light. Be brutal when purging clothes and shoes ( I have a hard time with shoes) but the closet will look so much better when you get rid of what you honestly haven’t worn in ages.I also hang my out of season clothes in a diffeerent space in my basement but under bed works too. I like to organize mine according to color and I have these great fabric boxes from Ikea called Skubb they come in a great pale green this tear they have shoes boxes and drawer liners these are just a couple of the many items . I use them in my closet with nicely printed labels on the front to sort stuff I don’t wear all the time.

I definitely need to toss a bunch of shoes...but it is hard. I was thinking about taking out the shoe thing and replacing it with narrow drawers for some of the hanging stuff. Then also get one of the bars that lets you drop down clothes from the top. I can throw out all of those hats. Its ridiculous how stuff just keeps piling up. I love all of your ideas. Thank you.
