Granite window sill?

Do people still put granite window sills in a kitchen window that is above the sink? My builder left mine with nothing and when I asked him about it, he said he could continue the backsplash tile over the window sill.

The window is not framed and I think it looks "naked" without some type of sill (all the other windows in that room are not framed but have wood sills). He said putting a granite sill sounded weird to him and acted like he had not heard of that before. Everyone I know has that type of window sill in their kitchen but we all live in older homes so I don't know if that is just not done anymore.

I thought my window sill was high, but yours wins by a mile (or several inches)! Is there enough room under your handle for the granite to fit? I've had my countertop stone on the sill in my current and previous kitchen and love it. This is our current kitchen.

I like the idea and remember loving them in older homes. I think a sink window needs a sill of some type and granite is so easy!

I have a quartz sill on the unframed window over the sink. I had never heard of it before my remodel and at first I thought it was a terrible idea. But my KD convinced me and I've loved it ever since.

I have a granite sill on an unframed window over my sink. We are putting in soapstone counters in our remodel, and will use the soapstone for the sill.

We have quartzite on the two large unframed windows in our kitchen. This is the same material as the counter and short backsplash that goes up to the window. Looks great!

Thanks everyone! This is the window. The window is higher than I thought it would be but the view is not something I want to look at so it works out LOL. He wants to extend the sill all the way to the cabinets. I think it should just be a regular sill and have one tile on either side going up the side where the lines are marked. The cabinets are too close to the window but not changing that. It looks fine from far back IMO.

Mine is similar to nhbaskets only the height is lower, about 2" from the counter to the bottom of the sill. Sorry, no good picture handy. We have tile on the backsplash that's not behind the window.

Thanks nhbaskets for mentioning that. I went to the house and measured and yes there's enough clearance under the handle.

We had both sills in our kitchen made out of our remnant pieces. I'm so glad I did as I wouldn't have wanted wood that close to my sink.

Yes I think granite for window sill is great. Surprised your contractor thought that was strange. I think it's a common thing. I would probably have the sill go around your rounded corner drywall and end at the cabinets since they are so close.

i also love my granite sill., didn't know it wasn't in, lol... we had a wooden sill at our first house and the granite is so much easier to maintain., no worries with water.
