Application rates vary depending on species and length of control. Usually 1.5 - 3 oz per 1000 sq ft. in a 2 1/2 gallon sprayer. You have to calibrate the sprayer to a specific coverage, not a specific quantity of water - 1000sf seems to be the smallest area they list.

Really, if you're using a non-consumer grade horticultural/agricultural material, you OUGHT to be able to figure it out, or hire someone who can. Sorry to be a d--- but it has to be said.

FWIW, I've found Surflan difficult to use in 2 models of pump sprayers. I'm sure people do it but for me it seems to want to get clogged either in the nozzle or the siphon. It works just fine from my Fimco ATV sprayer with 12V pump.

Yeah, I expected to get something like this comment. I'm just not very patient or adept with complicated math formulas. Calibration just seems like such a hassle. I was hoping someone with experience, such as yourself, could give me good advice, such as your comment regarding pump sprayers clogging. Thank you. I'll switch to the Fimco-- which is overkill for the 1000 sq feet that needs to be sprayed.

The problem, jmurski, is that without a sprayer that will get the job done and without proper calibration, you can damage the plants you wish to protect, or you can apply the chemical without getting the results you want.

I'd do some more asking around about sprayers. Professionals don't necessarily drag out the big equipment for such a small area.

Agree with all the comments about making sure you have the math right and proper calibration, but I don't think you should feel bad about asking for help. Part of the challenge of using these non-consumer grade pesticides is that the directions are often presented assuming that you have an industrial-sized sprayer (some even give ratios for aircraft spreaders!). I bought a gallon of concentrated triclopyr, and the instructions were totally impenetrable if you're using a 1 or 2 gallon sprayer. In fact, the online store that I bought it from has a clear by-the-ounce measurement on their website for small applications because they must get this question all the time.
