A few years ago I planted a bed of bulbs which proved to be an assortment of Louisiana Iris and Pseudacorus (yellow flag mostly Pseudacorus. (btw I can't tell the difference when they are not in bloom.)I'm ready to thin them out and transplant them to another area.

The area I have in mind is a narrow strip of land in between my fence and a ditch. I live on a dead end road and the ditch is supposed to flow into the woods. It really doesn't flow anywhere. The area is usually overgrown with weeds because it is a very hard area to mow. The ground is uneven and contains several obstacles like sewer equipment, my propane tank, and the power pole. I usually end up mowing it only a few times a summer. I'm kinda lazy like that.

I figured the irises could solve my unsightly weed problem, once they take over. In the meantime, planting there will prevent me from mowing at all. I'm also considering planting in the ditch itself as well.

What do you think? Is this a good idea? Should I plant directly in the ditch, as well as along the fence line? Any thoughts for weed prevention?
