Hi Joooo, we have a stand alone tub and I love it. I don't believe I would care as much for it if I had to shower in it. We have a separate shower so the stand alone tub is great. When we installed the tub I had my husband place the feet far enough from the wall so I could get a swiffer behind it and since the feet are high enough can also swiffer under the tub. Stand alone tubs are a real selling point as it gives the bathroom a spa feeling. Just my personal opinion but I don't see them as a passing fancy.

i don't think people thought the corner tubs were a passing fancy when they were going in, til owners noticed they never used them and had to dust the bottom.

i think you should put in what you think you'll use, pure and simple.

we have a stand alone clawfoot (came with the house) and i'm sick of dusting the bottom all summer (i use it for a bath maybe 3 times per winter), when i got a price to get rid of it and add a nice shower and renovate the bathroom fully it was $42K, so i cant afford to get rid of the previous owners' passing fancy. grumble.

We also have one (no kids) and it never gets used.
