I've lived in upstate SC for 3 years now, on a wooded lot. However, we lost several of the big trees surrounding our house in some recent storms and suddenly we have a large (10 x 20 ft) bed in front of the house full of shade plants and shrubs that are dying because they are suddenly in full sun. Also, we have a disheartening amount of open ground now, and the nice privacy space we had separating our house from our neighbors' is now gone. I guess I need some recommendations for fast-growing shrubs and small trees that grow in this heavy clay soil! Up to 8 feet tall. Thanks so much!
