Small rose plant help

Hi,

I bought a small rose plant early this spring. I initially put it in the office, but it lost all the flowers I think because of lack of sunlight, so I brought it home. It seemed to do better outdoor, so I planted it in the soil where it seems to be fine now (except for one or 2 yellow leaves), but still no flowers.

I wonder if I should consider repotting and bring it inside before winter? Or any better care tips?

I live in (not very central) London, and winter temperature get down to a few degrees below 0, and most mornings I see some light frosting on roofs... Maybe some Pop-up greenhouse kind of protection could suffice?

Why aren't they flowering anymore?

In your location there should be no significant winter damage. Miniature roses should be fully hardy to -12 C, and certainly they are better off in the garden. Roses bloom in flushes about 6 weeks apart, but there will be a delay from transplanting.

Still, you should have more flowers this season. I don't see any new growth coming, though. Give it a gallon of water twice a week. I would also give newly-planted roses half-strength soluble fertilizer once a month, although there are some here who will say you should not.

Most roses require at least 6 hours of sun. So if it is not getting that much sun, then that could be the problem

Thank you. I forgot to add that now they have been placed in the soil in the middle of a south facing long garden, so sun exposure should not be a huge issue anymore.
I am mostly worried about winter and the lack of flowers...

Those cute little things are grown under very specific conditions. It will take some time to see if yours survives the changes. It very well may. It needs to establish itself to your growing conditions.

Also, you should have at least two months to see if it establishes and to decide on winter protection.

The plants have been spaced up slightly when transplanted, and they seem slightly bigger than how they were in March, but not much...
I will try with the plant food - will a little bit of the miracle gro granules do? Or maybe I should get something specific for roses...

If it doesn't work, I will try to space them up even more and see what happens!

The most important thing is DO NOT EVER bring them indoors! Roses HATE to be indoors - it is much much too dry for them, and not enough light. Yours will do fine where you are over the winter. (Folks, she means "below zero" Centigrade, not F!). I would just make sure they are getting adequate water, sun, and it is OK to feed them - follow the directions. DO NOT dig them up and move them again! Every time you do that, it damages the roots, and they will stop growing or blooming for another long time while they try to re-grow their roots. Just leave them alone, and see what they do next Spring. I think they almost died because of being indoors, and then they got transplanted, and just need a few months to recuperate. In my case I had to dig it up or they would of died because there was 4 different rose plants with all the roots tangled together and choking each other...

I transplanted mine September 2014 and it made it through winter great... The trouble did not start until June of 2015... Leaves fell off, then it releafed but leaves stayed yellow/white colored then fell off again...

Yes I would leave it alone unless you start seeing drastic problems...

I forgot to add - one thing I would do is weed out any weeds which are within 20 inches of any rose plant. Then put about 2 inches of mulch around each plant - not touching the base of the plant, but just next to it, all the way out about 10-15 inches. This will help with water retention, heat, and eventually soil quality.

They look fine. Since these were newly transplanted my guess is they're growing root ball and once they feel sufficiently established will then put out new growth and blooms. Good care and patience are the best things for them now. I would not dig them out and bring them inside for winter. Every time you dig them up or move them you set them back again. Your winter shouldn't be that bad that you would need to do much protection for them at all.
