Application ofConversion varnish

Hi, I have 25 year old prepainted lacquer cabinets. I am giving my kitchen a facelift and got all new doors and drawers so now its time to paint. Can The same conversion varnish be applied to prepainted lacquer cabinets and bare wood drawers and doors? If yes, what manufacture primer and conversion varnish should be used? If no, will there be a color difference if conversion varnish is used on the bare wood and standard paint is used on the varnish?
