You really need much bigger tiles-don't try to match your countertop...too boring. Look at picking up the floor color in the backsplash; go to a tile wholesaler for a better selection. Hardware stores carry very little variety. Choose a bold striking tile to pull the eye up from the intensity of the rich dark floor color!

Agree with grapefruit, the tile is too busy. The tile might not look as busy if there was more tan in it, I only see black and white and your counter top is mainly tan. Agree with suze54, try a tile store. When you visit the tile store consider putt a framed design above the stove.

Agree with above. Way too busy and I also don't like things too "matchy-matchy" that looks dated fairly quickly. But I am NOT a fan of defaulting to subway tile. What about adding something with a little texture to add interest. Would look great with both cabinets and countertop. Bellavita Frost- Dawn.

Again...no...it does not work at all.

Where your getting your tile ask if they have a countertop sample of your counter top and put them together in the store. I agree with grapefriut, it doesn't work.

Go to gbmglass.com and look at the Subway or Clean and Slick tiles. You can shop by color and sizes. I think this may give you the decoration without the fuss you are so afraid of. And they are very affordable.

Simplifying the patterning of the backsplash would allow the counters to take the spotlight, and make your kitchen look visually cleaner.

Your second choice in the "after" is much better. Much more restful for your eye that the darker tile.

Looks really nice and balanced; both the colors and the size of your tiles. I'm glad you didn't choose those skinny horizontal tiles. They are already looking dated to me and I think we are all going to think they are dreadful 5 years from now ;)

What type of tile is that? It looks great. I'm having similar problems picking out our backsplash.
