I agree with Karen that it's too busy, especially stacking one painting in front of another makes the room look like you just took a break from putting them up. Decide which ones you want to use, and find someplace else for the others. I also agree you have too many candles.

I think you also have too much going on in there with a bar cart with chairs on each side and a buffet. Choose one and remove the other and see if you don't like the look better. I prefer the buffet--it's beautiful.

Thank you so much Karen and Hayley! I've been trying to "warm" up the dining room to make it feel more like home and I guess I lost track and just added too many accessories. Thanks for pointing this out. I will remove some of the candles and the paintings as suggested, as well as some of the furniture.

Icelada, please post pictures after you make some of the changes, so we can see your progress You have beautiful pieces and great taste, but sometimes it takes an outsider to help get it just right.

Here are my suggestions:

Place the side board where the bar cart is currently placed provided there is room. Keep both lemony chairs on either side of the side board. Place the two orange candle sticks on the sideboard and either locate a vertical piece of artwork or a mirror above the side board.

If you love orange, maybe you should consider adding more orange to tie your items together. I might consider painting one of the walls unless the orange doesn't work with the sideboard. Then I would alter the color to maybe yellow to make it work. I would have done drapes instead of a valance.

The purpose of a bar cart is mobile surface for serving guest. Yours has too much stuff placed on it to be of use. If you serve drinks to your guests, I would stock the cart with liquor and place it some where else or move it out of your home. Move the birds and boxes etc elsewhere.

Turn your table and chairs 45 degrees so that it is positioned like this. Better visually for the room. No candles or rectangular placemats. Find a placemat with no corners. Is there a chandelier somewhere?

I like your taste also! I agree with Beverly. Turn the table and chairs, put extra chairs next to buffet with candelabra's on buffet also. Please post new pics too!

Hi BeverlyFLADeziner! I never imagined that turning the table 45 degrees would have such an impact in the room but it does! I can't believe I never thought of this. I originally placed the buffet on the other wall but it's too large for the wall (touches end to end) so it overpowers it. Drapes would have been my first choice (love them) but the window is next to a wall, therefore one of the panels would cut into my window and I didn't want to cover the window. Thanks for everyone's suggestions!!!

Ready made panels these days take up almost no room, I would still consider them. You need the color Is the side board going to stay, or are you considering replacement of the piece. Don't know what is happening with the 3rd wall, so I can't yet recommend leaving the sideboard where it is and placing the chairs on either side of it.

Think of ways to get a bit more orange in the room.

I agree with Karen and Hayleydaniels that you have too much going on in this room. I would suggest you keep the flower on the table, the pair of red-orange candleholders, one of the grey-toned pictures, and the boat picture you have above the buffet. Next, I would suggest you switch the large boat picture with the grey-toned painting you have on the gold-frame cart at the end of the room. However, I would suggest you get a matching frame for the narrower picture. Then, when you display the narrower picture above the buffet, have one of the red-orange candleholders on each end of the buffet so that the holders flank and enhance the picture. I am sure you can find other locations in the house for the rest of the decorative items or find times when you can rotate the pieces seasonally.
