Is this bedroom for a men, a women or a couple?

If you paint it a cream or blue you may like it better.

You can go monochromatic with everything in shades from black to white and from chocolate to beige. This will give you a moody, dramatic space.

I love all the above ideas they are perfect. I just painted in light greys too. I tried to do every bedroom in a different colour. Reds and blacks together look wonderful. Bright yellows and bright greens go well with the grey walls too. I think my favourite though is the room with different shades of purple accents, and a 70's chair with orange velvet is the one room that stands out wonderfully, and as a rule I don't generally appreciate orange.

You could always put a large sisal rug (or some other neutral, lighter colored rug) over the wall to wall if you can't remove it. To lighten up the overall effect, neutral bedding, light linen panels with either wood or bamboo blinds would work well. Incorporate color with artwork, pillows, and decorative accessories.

You only have one bedroom in your ideabook, but it's a good one. Copy it.

My walls are a lot lighter than yours but I have gone for a slate grey in the curtains for the same reason as karemore55 mentioned, black felt too harsh and slate grey softer/warmer and am really pleased I chose it. I have gone for a nice crisp white duvet cover with just a pleated strip bottom end and on the pillows, pale grey dual side textured soft blanket down the end of the bed then added a black cushion on the bed but also a grey one that says dream, turquoise textured cushion and a big european one that has white and turquoise in it...rest of the colour in the room is going to be little touches in artwork and probably a bright coloured pen holder on the students desk etc....

You could easily change the rug by checking remnants at a carpet store and placing that over what you have now. I would definitely add something like teal, turquoise or aqua in accessories. You might find too much dark over a long period to be depressing. I would stay with gray, white and the accessory colors.

I like my bedroom dark, easier to go to sleep.

The room is dark so brighten it up a little. I would not use black curtains, but perhaps a black finished bed/furniture. Brighten it up with white bedding and throw in some color in your accent pillows and a throw blanket.

I think if you choose a gray for the walls that has more of a blue or teal under tone the brown carpet wouldn't clash so much. LOSE the back curtains. Go with white curtains and bedding, metallic lamps and accents to give the room some shine to brighten it up a bit and bring the color, pattern and texture in with some accent pillows for the bed
