The bark and cone suggest Pinus ponderosa. The needles in twos also matches that plant, albeit many specimens also can be found with fascicles of three needles.

If that is the actual identity, somewhat surprising to see any green needles on the tree in sopping wet England. Even here in Wisconsin, P. ponderosa nearly always succumbs to fungal needle blights, owing to the higher humidity here as compared to the tree's natural range. Hmmmm?

Pinus sylvestris.

Yep.

Doh! The bark threw me off, looking more reddish than orangish. My two new words aside, how dare these trees deviate from my preconceptions!

Ditto to Scots Pine. Fairly short, glaucous, needles in pairs, and downward-pointing cone, are the easy characters for recognition.

Thanks everyone I think most of the pine trees in this park if not all are scots pine. Okay so about collecting seeds can I take some of the green pines and let dry them or do I need a pine that's brown and closed I pulled off about 5 open pine cones but they had 0 seeds or the seeds that came out were very squishy do I need to wait till fall for them to ripen off?

You need to wait for the green cones to ripen. Harvest them in late winter, February or March is ideal. Then put them in a sunny window to open, and shake the seeds out.

Yep, last year's cones (the brown ones) will have no viable seeds left in them by now.
