Juice fermented

I picked blackberries yesterday morning with the intention of using them to make a soft set jam, minus the seeds. I refrigerated the berries until evening. I then washed and cleaned the berries. The next step would have been to add some water and simmer until soft, but somehow I forgot that step and put them straight through my Foley mill. Hung pulp in jelly bags to strain on counter overnight.

This morning the juice smelled fermented and I think it tastes somewhat like a Merlot. Not bad, but not entirely like fresh blackberry juice either. Never had this happen before. I put the juice in the fridge until I could figure out what I want to do...

Has anyone encountered this before?
