Handrail question

The glass half-wall is an option I am considering for our stairwell to the downstairs, however, is the fixed handrail going down a requirement for this wall? I am wondering if the half-wall can be standalone as I am looking to put the handrail on the left side of the stairwell. Thanks!

No, the handrail is not required by code for the fixed lite. It can definitely stand alone.
