Gardening in Shade

Solomon's Seal Problem

Last fall, I planted two of these plants. This spring they looked very pretty. In the late spring, one started to turn yellow. By August, it looks like this picture. I'm including a photo of the healthy one for comparison. They are about 8 feet apart and get the same shade and watering.

If it's only that one branch of your Solomon's Seal, I wouldn't worry about it. Just cut it off. The rest of the plant looks healthy. Could have yellowed from any number of reasons, but it looks like isolated damage. Should come back fine next year. :-)

The foliage of Solomon's Seal turns that color naturally in the fall so maybe that one stem just turned earlier for some reason. Like Maureen said, I wouldn't worry about it.

Maybe there's a ph problem in that 1 space, but, it all looks great except for that 1 place, and with that cement there in that area I'm not surprised, cement and concrete is alkaline, so could upset the PH, IF that is the problem.
