Looks liked packed pea gravel....needs some new gravel.

Thank you both for the info. Annie how can DG be stabilized? I'm in HK and hoping I can find the necessary materials. I live a half mile walk in from the road so transporting materials is hard. I have beautiful yellow soil, maybe I can mix it with cement and make a 3 inch thick pad with grass edging for water runoff?
Does that sound at all feasible to you? Thanks for the advice!

From what I have gathered, when you order the DG, you request the stabilizer to be mixed in with the stone that binds the pieces together while maintaining a permeable surface. There is also a DG application available mixed with polymers that will create a non permeable surface similar to asphalt still with the loose appearance of DG. It all depends on how steep the slope is and the level of traffic you expect. It is more expensive to get these binders mixed in, but the maintenance and longevity I think is worth it.

I would contact the supplier with more specific answers, but basically I wouldn't suggest a DIY project. It's a professional application.

Wow, I'm a big fan of Debora Carlson after looking at her portfolio. Everything looks gorgeous ..... and then .... I will probably get some hateful feedback on this, and I love America, but the neighbor's thoughtless placement of the wound-up flag doesn't add to this very organic/naturalist scene. I'm only saying that there is probably a better place in their yard for it. At least the purple hopseed bushes will grow. I'm probably overly sensitive to this as we worked for a quarter of a century to make our backyard something we love to look at, as well as enjoying our mountain view, and then new neighbors moved in and put their 33' RV smack in our faces, blocking our beloved view. They could have positioned it in a place where we wouldn't see it AT ALL, but nope, we see all 33' of it. I just think people should be more mindful of things they plant and erect next to their neighbors. Sorry! ;-)
