Is the staircase leading to the basement with open risers as well? Do you think it has to be?

    Depends on what is on the lower level. In this house, we wanted as much light as possible in the basement. With open risers, it gives the feel of more light and a lighter, floating stair and the staircase has a continuous design bottom to top.
