Pruning fruit trees

I really want to maximize production on our newly planted apple/plum/cherry trees. They were just planted a couple of weeks ago and are around 5' tall. From what I'm reading, they should be pruned heavily, but not until they are dormant. My current plan is to wait until next March when the threat of severe cold has passed.

This pic from Clemson provides a good summary of how to prune.

Seem like a good plan?

I've always been fairly haphazard on pruning trees in the past, but I really want to get it right with these new/young fruit trees.
