Overdue reveal

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. Many of you were kind enough to give me advice, guide me and listen to me during our new build. We moved in right before Thanksgiving. It was quite hectic with the holidays and then as soon as the holidays were over, my mother became ill. My time was spent doing as much as possible for her as well as trying to put my house together. Sadly my mother passed and it went right into settling her estate, cleaning her house out and selling it. Her home sold and I've started to breathe and work on our landscaping, etc since it's our first summer here. Having said all that, I apologize for not getting to post pics of the house. Thank you again for all your help. We love our new home :)

So sorry to hear about your mother. Losing a parent is one of the hardest things to go through.

Looking at the beautiful home you've made for yourself and family, your Mom must be looking down on you and filled with pride for her wonderful daughter who took good care of her and is now doing the same for her family. I love every little thing you've done. Kudos to you, well done!!

I am sorry for the loss of your mother and glad you were able to be there for her. Cherish the memories.

Gorgeous house. So many things to love! I could move into your closet;looks so functional and organized. Love your kitchen-great backsplash. Are the counters carrera and if so, is etching an issue? Like the sparkle of the chandies, mirrors, shower tile, etc. with the soft colors. What is the wall color in the bath with the corner tub? Thanks for taking the time to post your reveal. I love seeing the finished product and always come away with ideas.

P.S. Who is peeking in the window in your fireplace picture? Can't enlarge pic enough to get a good look.

It looks like it is ready for the magazine folks to come by and take pictures. How did you decide on red for your front porch area and the sun room?

I am so sorry for your loss.

I hope your lovely new home provides a soothing oasis for you and your family. Your house turned out beautifully!

My condolences and deepest sympathy for your loss.

And congratulations on your lovely new home. I am having serious closet and pantry envy --- an island in a closet! I love all of your choices, especially the bits of bling that I too enjoy.

    Beautiful home!

Thank you for the wonderful comments left overnight about my mother and house. Today is actually my mother's bday. Im sure she is celebrating in heaven with my dad as she missed him terribly since he passed two years ago.

to answer a few questions, peeking in the window next to the fireplace is actually a stained glass face of my cat who recently passed away :( yes, it's been a tough year of loss, but with some wonderful things happening as well. Give and take I guess happens to all of us.

the kitchen countertops are not marble, they are quartzite. I wanted marble so bad, but knew I could not deal with the scratching and etching. When I was at the stone yard in NJ I was almost crying over the marble slabs, but just couldn't do it. The quartzite is the closest look to marble I found and am happy with it!

i was asked how I decided to do red on my front porch.mwell, the exterior color is a dark taupe and I just thought red would look best. Since I live in PA and we have 4 seasons, I thought red would continue nicely through fall. I started tomdomthatbwithnmynflowers years ago as well. I love pretty pinks, purples etc., but found when fall started, even if the flowers were still alive and pretty, I did not like pink in early fall, so I do red. You will see on my screened in porch I did red and that's because I brought that red outdoor furniture from our last home. The table with umbrella is on the deck closest to the screened in porch because they also came with us. However, I have aqua blue on the other side of the deck outside because it's my fav color. The red set in the screened porch will need new cushions in a year or two, so I'll get aqua ones then.

I'm blown away at the thought of putting together such an amazingly beautiful home while dealing with all you have gone through! Just the move would have done me in but managing your mother's passing and the implications of that say a lot about your strength and perseverance.

(((chloenkitty)))) I'm so sorry about your mom. You did well to keep it all going and your new home makes me feel so much peace to see. I wish the peace I feel! So wonderful and serene!

What a pretty home, inside and out. It was so fun to look through these photos. I especially love your outdoor space, backsplash tile, booth in the kitchen, and the amazing storage. That closet! Fills me with envy! Everything looks very well planned and elegant.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your mother. I'm sure it was very difficult to go through so many life changes in such a short time. Hope you are doing well, and enjoying your beautiful new house!

Oh wow, what a beautiful home. I love your vintage-looking tub and sink. I was just telling DH I wish we had a bigger bathroom and tub. Envious of your pantry space. The fireplace area is just stunning. Really, all of it is just so well done.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your mom and kitty. The stained glass "portrait" is really cool. Where did you get that done?

So sorry about the loss of your mother. Your house is totally amazing! Each room flows and coordinates so well with the others. I hope you enjoy the fruits of your labor for many years!

What an elegant, comfortable home! My favorite room is the dining room: lovely furnishings and that stunning window too. I'm sorry about your mother's illness & passing. May you have many years of peace and contentment in your beautiful new home.

Happy birthday to your sweet mama. I hope you are comforted by countless happy memories. My heart goes out to you as you grieve her loss and celebrate her life.

Your home ... Wow. What else can I say, except that it's positively stunning! Having just moved to a new home myself, you are my inspiration! Would you please come to Texas and fix mine up just like you've done yours? :-)

Are you sure you just didn't clip pictures out of a Home Decorator's magazine? lol You did a wonderful job, a great eye for detail. I really like your wood floors, they look vintage. Too many other things to list that I love.

I've learned so much through this experience. My husband and I are just regular middle class, working people. We are pretty much home bodies with the occasional vacation so we saved many years to do this. I'm sure so many of you learned the ins and outs and little secrets, but I thought I'd share a few of mine. For whatever reason, I have really come to love beautiful lighting, but as we all know, it can be expensive. I found much of my inspiration on houzz and would go from there. Once I found a light fixture I loved, I searched and searched online to find the best price. For instance, the round flower ball fixture in the one spare bedroom. I loved the World's Away light, but Pottery Barn had what appeared to be the exact same light for $200 compared to almost $500 from World's Away. The sconces in my bathroom (the one with the clawfoot tub) were only $99 from lampsplus.com. This is a good to know tidbit, www.lightingnewyork.com matched any price I found online plus took off about another 25% if asked. They really saved me a lot on lighting. For paint I waited for Sherwin Williams to have a sale, I purchased many items at Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Pier1, Joss & Main and One Kings Lane. I would mix more expensive things like the desk from Ethan Allen in the office with the area rug from Joss & Main and the cool mirror from Pier 1. So, taking my time and comparison shopping, asking for a better price really paid off. I also paid cash for some things in person and would ask if the price could be lowered if I paid cash. Many places agreed! I also got the roman shades from sellers on etsy.

Oh and someone asked the color of the paint in the master bathroom. I will look when I get home, but it is a pale blue/gray from Sherwin Williams.

While you're sharing, could you tell where you found the cute flower petal wall decor items in the kitchen over kitty's bowl?

Delilah, I found 2 of them (the fuller ones) at Target! See how something inexpensive and simple can look nice?! I wanted one more because I like things in odd numbers, but they were sold out and not available on line. I was going nuts trying to find something to put with them. I actually found the other one (that has 5 petals I think) from the nicest seller on etsy. He has many shapes and sizes and they were reasonable. I am at work now, but if you would like, I can check on his store name for you when I get home and let you know. I originally had the two white flowers and a yellow flower hanging (all from Target) but I am just liking the monochromatic look of all white better.

Chloe - You shop like I do! I can check Etsy! Thank you!

Chloenkitty - Wow! Such a pretty house! You have a good eye for detail and pulling it all together. I am envious as we just got our CO and will be moving shortly. It seems overwhelming. But your house gives me hope! It's just beautifully done.

I really like all of your outdoor spaces. Can't say which I like better.

Thanks for posting all the pics and sharing about your mom. My sympathies to you.

Chloenkitty, your house is really beautiful. The windows in the living room look like a work of art. I would be out on the deck every single day with weather that cooperated. It feels very cohesive, like you really know yourself and have translated that into your own style. I echo what others have said about your mother smiling down and blessing you in your new home. It is hard to believe that it is so new because it already has an inviting, "welcome home" feeling.

Very nice! Can I come live on your deck?

So sorry about your mom. And kitty.

Beautiful home Chloe......love the outside spaces and your pantry in particular!

Condolences on the loss of your mother - I can empathise, having lost mine in March ten months after my dad passed away :(

Coming on top of a stressful house renovation followed by its sale, then the purchase of our current home (another project - last December), I can testify that it takes guts just to make it through the day sometimes, so kudos to you for holding it all together to create such a wonderful home in spite of everything life has thrown at you......

    Mimi from the UK x

ps sorry about your kitty too

I love your house! The outdoors and sun room are spectacular, I love the pantry and the eat-in nook just wonderful! And that graphic of a TP roll over the toilet brought a chuckle - I want that!

I extend sympathy and sorrow about your mom -- This is never easy.

I have to confess that I ordered the TP print, as well as a toothbrush one, from Amazon. I'm going to hang them in my kids' bathroom. Hope you don't mind copycats, Chloe!

Sueb20 I was never like that. I often grab something I have for a friend if I know they like it! Please post a pic when you getbthem!!! :) xo

I can simply repeat the kind words that others have expressed. Lovely!

Your home is gorgeous...I have serious closet envy! I lost my mother this past spring and can only send my prayers for peace. At any age you still want Dad and Mom.

This was a pleasure to see, I have wondered about how everything came out! Love your quartz, bar stools and gorgeous walnut floors. The stone fireplace is fabulous!! I'm not sure about the need for sheers in the corners but you may want to post a separate thread to solicit help. The mantel is perfect for the space and everything looks just, oh so finished - not at all as though you have been in the house for less than a year. It was fun being there as you were making some of these decisions - terrific job and congratulations to you and DH!

Your house looks amazing!!! Can I ask where you got your stair runner? I've been looking everywhere for something similar! Sympathies to your family.

Such a beautiful home, and when I read how you did it all, I am amazed at your resourcefulness. I don't know if I would have the patience (or the time) to do what you did. Love it all, but am especially envious of your closet & your lovely screened porch!

So sorry about your Mom too. That is so hard to go through, and especially in the middle of getting your new house together. I lost my Mom 20 years ago this summer after an 18-month illness and I still grieve her loss. Peace to you.

Aww. so sorry about your Mom.

Your house is lovely. I especially like the out door spaces. I am glad you came back and posted; it is really fun to see things come to fruition. I love the continuity of your home. Enjoy!

Ashley I think it was shaw, but I will find out for sure and get back to you. It came in a few colors.

Chloenkitty, I'm so sorry about your mom. Your home is lovely and warm, I so enjoyed seeing the photos. Thank you for sharing.

I'm so late to this, but I just have to add to all the wow's. Wow.... I'm almost speechless, your house is just wonderful in every way. I'm so sorry that the move in coincided with your mother's illness and passing, but hope you can find some comfort in such a lovely setting.

Cloenkitty, your build/decorating has come to an end. I really hope you will still come back to the forum. It is clear that you have an eye to decorating.

I cannot believe it's been 2 1/2 years since this was posted. Because, I still think about your house all the time. I really love it and it's nice to revisit it.
