Take a bucket, fill it 1/4 up with sudsy water, and hold it in one hand UNDER the area that the grasshopper is in, and swat downward with the other hand so it jumps in the bucket to evade you. Works with Japanese Beetles and grasshoppers both. Be sure to cover the bucket after he's in there, or he might get out before drowning.

i never thought grasshoppers were territorial, but other growers share stories and images of 'pet' grasshoppers sleeping in the same blooms night after night. Guess they know when they've got it good!

Haha! I happened to see him on a leaf so I hit the branch and he flew to the ground. I then stepped on him. I felt kind of bad about it, but at least he won't be chewing on my leaves anymore!

Hope his cousins stay away for you. It's amazing how much damage one bug can do... Especially if they're determined to sample each bloom.
