Tub dropped in without mortar bed

I have not spoken to GC yet but before our air tub was installed we specifically asked if they would be putting a mortar bed in 1st. We were told yes. I went to the house today and see that the tub is installed. I looked in the access panel and it is just hanging there, there is no mortar bed for it to sit on. There is at least 5-6 inches from the bottom of the tub to the floor. I assume they glued it in or whatever they do to secure it but I am not positive. I checked the install instructions online and it specifically says it must be on a mortar bed. Now what?

Absolutely get them to put it on a mortar bed. My Bain Ultra feels SO firm and sturdy and solid. And since they haven't done it yet, have them place a piece of plastic (I don't know the thickness) between the mortar and the tub so if there is ever a reason to have to remove the tub, it won't be stuck to mortar bed.

I went back to take another look. Nothing has been hooked up yet - electric, drain, faucets. I don't know why they would do this but maybe they set it there temporarily and are going to do the whole cement thing later. Will find out tomorrow!

Good luck you're there when they are working. Unless they were just trying to get it out of the way I can't understand why they bothered it set it in.

They wouldn't likely hook anything up for a day anyway. Everything needs to set in place first. Here, they put in the mortar base, layed in the tub. And then the next day (at least) started to hook up everything.

I don't get it either. Makes absolutely no sense esp. after our conversation last week when we were told they would do it.

good idea moni. My guys mixed the mortar in large plastic garbage bags, then placed the bags where the mortar needed to go. Easy to manipulate, easy to remove.

Ohhh, even a better take on the plastic idea :) Now you don't have to scrape/chip it off the floor (next remodel)
