Shiloh Question for Kompy

I've been frustrated by the lack of knowledge by the one Shiloh dealer I've met so far. I was wondering if you could answer a couple of basic questions so that I can figure if I should drive two hours this weekend to visit the only other Shiloh dealer recommended by the rep.

The first KD couldn't tell me if Shiloh can do deeper drawers and shelves if I increase the depths of my uppers to 15" and my lowers to 27" or 30". Are the drawers 21" and go no deeper? If they can be extended, how much would the cost be? Is it very expensive?

What is the cost of increasing the depths of the cabinets?

Is there an upcharge for frameless full overlay?

Does Shiloh have toe kick drawers? If so, what is the upcharge?

I figure the 2nd KD/dealer should be able to tell me what the upcharge is for cherry and paint.

I would appreciate any insights. Thank you in advance.

Thank you Kompy for the details. The second KD was more versed and he ballparked Shiloh for my design at double the cost of using his custom cab guy because of all the upcharges.

I will make note of all this info though for people who are looking at Shiloh.

You're welcome! However, be careful. I prefer a factory finish, especially if painted. Can you consider another brand? If not, and if you're not in a hurry, I would purchase a sample door for yourself and give it some 'abuse' to see how well the finish holds up. Custom cabinet shops don't automatically equal high quality. Like everything else, they have varying degrees of quality.

I would also shop around a little for Shiloh. I had estimates based on the exact same design vary by more than25%. I know it takes time for the KD togiveestimatesandittakestime foryou to getthem. Saving that much money is worth it to me.

If you shop around, make sure you have a cabinet list complete with quantities of moldings, modifications and internal cabinet accessories. If you just take in room dimensions, prices will vary widely. Also quote same door and finish. What's nice about Shiloh though is they only have two price groups for doors so makes it really easy.

I decided on going with Conestoga to get that out of CA factory finish.

I am getting several quotes though as one dealer was 100-500% higher than the other for the same exact cabinet.

Kompy, am I right that Shiloh doesn't do quartersawn oak? I'm waffling on whether I want painted or full-on Craftsman QS oak.

The Shiloh guy I talked to tried to talk me out of a painted finish. He said they chip. I think he was talking about painted finishes generally, not so much about Shiloh. It sounds like you think Shiloh's painted finishes are good, right?

You are right. They don't offer QS oak. Shilohs painted finish is good....a typical semi-custom finish. I have not received any feedback from clients otherwise.

Even top of the line cabinets can chip. I have a high end custom (3 yrs old now) and not any chips except there are a few on the door lip of my waste basket pull out. That is the one area that is very prone to finish wear and tear no matter what you buy.

If you like QS oak check out showplace wood products. They use white oak not red, which is more historically correct. This brand is similar to Shiloh, a bit more at times, sometimes less. Depends on your design.
