Painted panelling would be my first step

Paneling is staying it was part of my compromise, new paint on cabinets and replace the counter tops I got out of the deal, and refinish the wood floors that are under the lanolin that is there now.

Unusual wood panelling will set the color scheme for your kitchen. Looks like you have high ceilings and tall windows. Do you have more photos that show each wall? Photos with all the lights on and showing the full wall would be best. Include a piece of white paper to show colors, please.

If you have CFL bulbs in the ceiling fan, would you consider replacing them with "warm white" LED bulbs or regular 60-watt incandescent fan bulbs? CFL bulbs tend to make colors in photos look odd.
