I saw a bathroom that Sarah Richardson did where she painted the walls a very pale shade of pink. So rather than fight the pink go with it. And then get a bright floral or bold geometric black and white patterned shower curtain. If it is in the budget replace the fixtures with black ones in an antique style. And some prints for the wall. Some pretty towels and white throw rug.

I agree. Go with it and make it seem like your idea the whole time. Cherry blossum shower curtain would be really cute, maybe pink towels, but white then white or cream everything else. You don't want it to look like huge room of cotton candy:^)

Thanks so much for the suggestions, I would never be able to come up with these!!! One concern I have is that it's the only bathroom in the apartment, so I don't want it to end up looking too feminine

If it is a rental property...you actually can not/do not want to change tile...so look at it is as a so pretty "vintage" bathroom...:-))

Or could paint walls & ceiling light gray. I like the above ideas.

Since you're renting you'll definitely need to work with what is there, the cherry blossom idea is adorable, but if you're looking for something less feminine, I would aim for something more graphic or geometric. Something like these would be good examples:

Gender neutral would be flamingos. There are a lot of flamingo shower curtains out there.

My suggestions would be to start with something like this pink damask shower curtain (or you may be able to find an ivory/pale yellow damask curtain). Keep everything else including towels and accessories clean and simple. For example, clear glass soap dispenser and jars, solid creamy ivory/pale yellow towels. :)

Thanks for all the ideas! It's tough, because this type of bathroom is totally not my style, I like the sleek, minimalist spa-type bathrooms. One day! For now, have to work with what I got. More input always appreciated :)

This bathroom is not bad at all just add a vinyl shower liner with a pretty fabric one over the liner and a pretty bath rug. You can suspend those metal shower baskets on the inside of the towel rod to hold all your in shower toiletries.
