What's above the metal ceiling? Are you looking for a quick and dirty fix or something that will stand the test of time (cha-ching$$). I think the best solution (if you have the money) would be to take the metal all down and do something nicer (and higher). It looks terribly dark and claustrophobic now.

There is nothing above it but I can't take it down. My husband loves the roof and privacy is gives. It is to dark in there and that is why I was gonna take all the lattice down and open it up. I pressure washed the concrete so that's why everything is pushed over.

I thought about painting and taking all lattice down and hanging curtains.

I need any and all suggestions to make this patio look beautiful.

You have a large area to work with here. I would suggest that you take down all the lattice and screen it. This may be costly or not. (I live in Fl and can't have a patio that is not screened.) Then divide the area into eating and relaxing. If that is a brick outdoor FP, then move the BBQ down on that end with the tables and chairs. Move the seating and conversation pieces to the other end. If you have 2 separate tables, tie them together with same color cushions or accessories. Get some red cushions for the larger table.

Do the same with the seating items. Get same color cushions or paint the pieces to co-ordinate.

Consider an outdoor rug for the seating area.

You might want to save a wee bit of the trellis to cover where the view is less pleasing, but otherwise, I think you are on the right track with screening. It will continue the clean lines of the patio, and maximize more of the space than adding curtains can do. This willl be lush, once the plants are getting light again, and the fountain is on. Consider replacing the arbour trellis with 2x4s, or even removing the structure all together, for further improved light and views.

I can't have a fire pit because of the ceiling. There is a brick grill at the end that was built before this roof was put on. Now we can't use it because of the roof. We bought the like this. Looking to make upgrades very cheap. We did think about screening it. Thanks for all the comments. It really helps.

Have u considered a pergola instead of the metal roof? This would provide privacy but allow more light. Good job on the power washing...I would clean up the plants and add some color and mulch to your brick planter. Also I noticed some black metal furniture...it's really easy to spray paint it and add some colorful seat cushions. What is the wooden roof thing outside the patio? Difficult to tell from the photos.

Help us assess. I see a roller blind, so what's the sunlight status? [What direction does it face? I like your night lighting, mostly for atmosphere.]

Looks like you have a lovely garden. Maybe you can take down the lattice and still give the privacy your husband wants by adding more plants along the perimeter of the garden. Or some strategically placed plants in pots on the patio. If he won't go for that, see if you can remove some of the panels in the middle, and leave some on the patio edges. Hard to tell from the photos, but it appears there are some things hanging off of the patio ceiling. If so, can you take them down? Might make the ceiling disappear a bit. I think if you integrate the garden and the patio a bit more, it will be terrific.

The roller blinds face west. In thinking about taking all the lattice off all the way around. We really haven't utilized this space at all but I would like to do more entertaining in this area. I am not sure why that structure is there, outside of where we have taken the lattice down. There is a small flowers below the structure.

You can wrap your white metal posts with cedar. It will soften it up. Then I would add larger furniture and set up areas. Dining, lounging.

The roof over the patio is fully stable but the structure out the patio I don't think is.

Add some larger container plants maybe palms, sago, pony tail. Section off an area where you can hide things you don't want to see everyday. Work tables, buckets etc. your patio is a great size. Love the concrete brick pattern. I've seen this in very high end homes. I did my own patio in this design but with two layers of brick. Love It!

I would look at a storage cabinet also for hiding all the small items you use there. watering cans, plant food, grill utensils, etc. Get rid of the odd pieces of chairs and tables that don't fit in the separate areas. Decide on a color theme and use it for both areas to tie them together.

Just looking at the photos I assume the issue is the amount of light. The space can be small and if you have the right colour on the walls, it can feel large. The floor is awesome, the concrete and brick look is what architects charge good money for.

I don't know the house orientation, but you're not getting light in there. So you can either let more light in or change the colours of the surfaces to bounce the light around.

Option 1 would be to remove the lattice, but that may give protection you want from things like the wind.

Option 2 would be to change the colour of the brick wall. The super cheap option is to bag the wall and paint it white or a very light colour. More expensive is to render it and paint it. If that wall is white, then you will get more light bouncing around in that area and it will feel larger.

The brick wall is just sucking up light and no matter what you do in there with furniture it will always feel dark.

I'd just leave the roof, too much cost, issue to remove.
