Rox, you're right: the only drawback of MS is how needy it is. I had a second inflo that developed when the late one fell off over winter, but with a month of cool spring rain (like 70's, not even 50's or 60's) it fell off too. They definitely want very hot, humid weather to perform!

Hi Roxanne. I swear I replied to this thread, I guess I never hit submit? Ugh...the variety is very needy and I did have issues with this tree last spring. It developed an inflo to early and it aborted last season. I was so excited to see it push an inflo this year.. I really wasn't expecting to see anything this year.

hi Jen!! It really has surpassed my expectations . The fragrance is so strong and it seems to be darkening in its coloration from yesterday.. I think I'm looking at it to much!! Nah... I just love this beauty. Waiting to see a fuller bouquet soon.

Laura, you just have an amazing collection. Do you move all of those plants indoors in late fall with backhoe, or does it take a crane?

if I remember this right....Inferno was renamed Makaha Sunn after Riel Sunn who died of Ovarian Cancer.....correct me if I am wrong please...it has been sometime since I heard this story. She was a great surfer in Hawaii....

You make me laugh.. I need a crane or a some kind of heavy equipment!!

i do it all by hand every season and it's does take some time to get them all ready.. I'll start in mid October and then get them all inside by the end of October or I will watch the weather and make sure they are all inside by the time the lows at night reach 45 degrees.. I call it the " March Of The Plumeria" because I'll line them all up after I trim and select the ones that I will leave the leaves on and place under T-5 lights.. Most of them are trimmed and sprayed before they come in the house.

A labor of love.. My hubby thinks I'm nuts.. Although, he did invite the mailman to come in the backyard to see my collection. Can you believe that? I was stunned when he told me this.. He said that they were having a conversation and he said that I haven't had any packages lately. My hubby said she collects and grow Plumeria . the mail,an said he had one. Ugh....so my hubby said he could take a look at my collection. I was happy that my hubby was interested and proud to show him, but worried at the same time.. he then said " maybe I should be more careful then.. " I said it would would be a good idea.. I then told him about the problems about people stripping trees in California.. He said that I should be careful ... OMG he was the one to bring the mailman in the backyard.. Lol Then the bug guy who inspects the house each year came today. I had to move some trees so he could access the crawl space.. He was looking and said he knew friends who had these as well.. I looked at my hubby and he just smiled.

I think he got the message about bringing the mailman around.. It was a nice gesture. But ... I have to make sure that they know I have dogs .. Lol!!

i do know that it was Rell Sunn that he named it after. She passed from Breast Cancer. She was known as the " Queen of Makaha Beach" you are right, she was a well known champion surfer. :-)

I'll check on that one and get back to you...

Laura, I love your "March of the Plumeria" and it triggered some great memories. Being from Annapolis I've done a lot of yacht racing over the years although the 61 YO body can't take the beating much more. I used to participate in a four day regatta of Beneteau one designs and after a number of years, as opposed to tying up overnight at a safe harbor, we decided one night of the regatta would be "at sea." A couple of years prior to finally establishing a rule that the low or losing boat on a given day was responsible to set an anchor for the remainder, it would take hours of maneuvering to see who would "set the hook." We nicknamed it the "Dance of the Beneteaus."

This was named by Bud as MS but has also been called Inferno and Sunkist by others. All good names but Makaha Sunn is the registered name.

I just emailed Bud and he sent a reply but didn't mention about the Aka about MS. He was talking about the coloration and such.. He's such a great gentleman!!!

Thanks Jen.. I just looked at Diana's notes and I saw the same Aka for Makaha Sunn.. I took a picture of Blaze today.. She is looking great and I would say she is about three feet tall with three branches.. Here is a picture for you... I can't wait to see this beauty bloom!!! Mahalo! I love this one..

Mike.. That's a great story about the yachts .....I was thinking of us at the first Harborfest ( Norfolk Harbor). when we would all moor up to one another.. ( power boats) They don't allow that now, but back 20 years ago we would be stuck for days and would have to crawl over everyone's boats to get to the dock. We ended up finding so many kind people.. If you think about that, we trusted everyone then. You couldn't have people crossing over your property now.. So sad to think of that.

I like the sound of your "Dance of the Beneteaus". Sounds like you all had so much fun!! I can imagine the line of boats and the bonding that was made in that line.. Great memories.. Great laughs too!!

I'll post pictures of the " March" when I start to get them ready..
