Hi there! We are in the process of renovating a house in the Bay Area. We have just finished the floors, and in the process destroyed the existing hearth. I was planning to work on this project down the line, but it has to happen now (as you will see in the pictures). I thought I'd try this site to get some ideas...I'd describe my taste as more transitional, but the house has contemporary architecture. I was thinking of using a reclaimed beam, with maybe some carerra marble tile in a herringbone pattern. The hearth has been removed, and I will need a single slab of something along the floor. Feel free to shoot my ideas down and come up with something better! Thanks in advance!

PRO11 years agoA floor to ceiling tile would look great. Below is a copper-tile fireplace I designed for a client. You could also do it with a beautiful glass tile or large scale ceramic style. Stacked stone would probably not give you the transitional look you're after.
