I live in upstate ny. I haven't been able to get rid of it with weed killers yet. Thanks for any input

I'm not sure of the I.d., might be the autumnal phase (these panic grasses flower twice each summer, and the spring and autumn plants may look quite different) of variable panic grass, Dichanthelium commutatum. But the I.d. does not matter much to you I think; all you need to know is that it's a native perennial grass...

Nope, I know nothing about weed control. The thing is a grass, not a broadleaf weed, what do you do for crabgrass control? There should be some weed control experts chiming in on this topic.

The simplest means of eliminating that plant is to dig it out. The plants root system may be a clue as to whether you might expect it to grow back, but that does not take into account any seeds there may be. For good identification your local office of your states ag schools Cooperative Extension Service would be a good source.
