I don't have luck with water but some here did. Depending on the kind of Sans you got leaf cuttings from. Most would put in pure perlite and just slightly moisten it every so often. Don't let it set in water. That was my best way of getting the leaves to root. Keep warm, shaded, some light. It once took me a year for a stem of Sansevieria Schweinfurhia a year for one root the size of one rice. But then accelerated it's growth later. Also on the trifasciata varieties you will lose any yellow variegation with the new growth. Best to start with a root rhizome cutting.

Water works, but in a potting medium is safer (though usually slower) Stush's advise is good, he did not mention that it is usually best to dry the cutting for a few days so it will callous over.

Stush's advise also works on a variety of soil medium such as coarse sand (not play sand) or potting soil mixed with lots of perlite. The trick is patience and "Just slightly moisten". The warmer you can keep the cutting the better. Division of pups is the fastest way to propogate the plant. As barbmock asked: did you take a leaf cutting?

I find its easier to root them in pots of plants that are already established....if I'm not overwatering the plant, then I'm not over watering my cutting.

I'm terrible at keeping proper moisture level when I'm just trying to root something. I always, almost without fail, over water cuttings....BUT THEY LOOKED SO DRY! and then they melt so....

I've also never been able to root them in water but I now suspect it has a lot to do with how basic my water is, apparently, they are acidic loving plants, so that could be why.

but Fred is really good at rooting in water! Hopefully he can give you some tips.

Letting the cutting dry for a few days is a must. If you're not sure if it's dry enough, wait a day; it won't hurt it.
