Art advice needed!

We just moved into a new home and I am trying to figure out what to put over the sofa in the living room. I have an eclectic bunch of art work, photos, and prints that I am thinking about grouping together, but all the frames are different, and I am not sure how well they go together. Should I paint all the frames the same color? Or should I stick with one large something over the sofa? I've also attached a picture of the other side of the room. Still moving furniture around as well.

Looks like your dining room pictures are a little on the small side for that wall. I love this idea and it can also be used over your couch. Use molding to add size to a smaller picture/pictures.

Consider a couple of floating shelves. You can change the artwork easily.

I'd go with one large picture over the sofa. I find a grouping of small pictures can look confused unless you really know what you're doing. Save those for areas around your house like hallways that aren't the main focal point of the room.

You can arrange them on the floor first (the frames do not need to match). Just arrange to your eye. Copy the arrangement with pieces of white paper to double stick tape to the wall. Make sure they are not hung over about 6 inches from the top of the sofa. Also I would just move the accent chairs in closer to your sofa to make for best conversation.

I concur, making a grouping of smaller pictures can be a nightmare, if you don't do it right. So much easier to have large art and so much easier on the eyes. This would tie to your drapes

Can you use the one footstool as a coffee table for the sofa? Either that or buy a coffee table or ottoman.

I like very much your curtains / a floral art-feel. Maybe because you have that and other red items, a neutral grouping would be nice... what's the large piece on right wall? Not over sofa / post it there for us?

In other words, if you had little going on, then I'd say bring on the art!! But still it'd be fine.... :)

If you have a good quality photograph that means something to you, you could enlarge it and have it framed nicely. A personal photograph would look great over your couch and is preferable to mass produced artwork, in my opinion. I did something similar for over my fireplace. It is lovely every day when I walk into my family room to see my cousin's photo of Canandaigua Lake, NY.

The only thing I might have done differently is have the photo printed on canvas so that there would be no glare from the glass. On the other hand, I love the frame and mat used by the frame shop.

Loving all the ideas! I think I may try out some larger art and see how I like it. (Love the cows, by the way!) I also have a very large canvas with part of an e.e. cummings poem on it that might work there as well. Still not sure if the curtains are staying--the dining room across the hallway is BM Dill Pickle green with grey accents, and I may try to do something in those tones for curtains to tie the two rooms together better.
