In my kitchen there will not be the cabinet with microwave--

I have a run of vintage cabinets that have 10" deep glass-door uppers. My plates won't fit, but no one has ever noticed that they aren't as deep as the uppers on the other side of the kitchen. The same type of uppers--no doors, open shelving--are in the DR, which is open to the kitchen. Again, no one has noticed the shallower depth. I think yours will be fine.

The cabinets on each side of window will be standard 12 inch - others on stove side will be 12.... Still think ok mama goose?

your vent hood may be designed to fit under a 12" deep cabinet? Unless it is the chimney type.

The Cote De Texas, a la Sally Wheat, kitchen has what you're talking about, but in reverse order (I think). The cabinet in the corner is deeper than the ones flanking the hood. Yours will be on the other side of the hood from the window, but no MW shelf, correct? I think the picture you posted looks fine.

Open shelving has such strong horizontal lines that I doubt that you or anyone else would notice if one section was a couple of inches longer than another section. So, IMO, it doesn't really matter. Much.

Personally, I wouldn't want to sacrifice depth in the closed cabinets because less than standard depth compromises what can be stored there (as well has how much stuff can be hidden away.)
