Yes, the rug is a little small, it would be great to get a larger one. However, if you love this rug, it works great with the furnishings. To make it work great in the space, move the whole seating area closer to the television. That will creat more space between your dining and living area, perhaps you could add a consule table behind the sofa or even some additional seating

I find the rug too skimpy for the room and the sofa. Stripes are continuing all the linearity in the space; from blinds to lines in the concrete, to the long cabinetry and square tables and a rectangle TV. The room will come to life everywhere, like it does in the corner where the chair is, if you'll add some curvy excitement! Otherwise, the chair is the only lively and interesting spot in the room, IMO.

the rug is too small and to neutral for the room. looks like it could be part of the wall or the floor. go with a big white shag rug here. no more gray! Or pick up on the orange of the chair...

flair lighting, white is not an option because we have 2 dogs :-)

not lively, but if your going to have a rug, it should feel warm and cozy, I would think? with the cold feel of the cement and gray hard wood, see how cozy the white faux fur looks that is on the chair.

Try moving the sofa closer to the fireplace. Move the rug about 5 inches under the longest part of the sofa. Right now it's under the short side but not the long side.

The whole rug and sofa needs to come forward about two feet. Then the sofa needs to have all of its front feet on the rug. The rug might not look too small if the bare floor in front of the fireplace was lessened. Can you try that and give us a picture, please?

Michael, you have a beautiful, understated room. The rug is a little small, but not objectionably so. You can keep it as is, go one size up, or get an identical rug and place both rugs side by side turned the other way. It doesn't really matter which way the stripes go.

The only thing I would do here is to pull the butterfly chair out just a bit so it becomes more part of the seating group. A foot or 18", so the lowest part is about at the corner of the console.

BTW, your room is more contemporary than mid century modern.

I wouldn't change the type of rug, but the size (as mentioned in my opening post)

It would definitely stand out on your beautiful dark floor. Can you get it in the size appropriate for the size of your room? In my mind a much better choice.

200 X 290 cm would work a lot better! You can also consider moving the carpet out a bit from underneath the couch to a more central location on the floor

Yes it's almost the same size, 160x240cm... Larger rugs are more expensive and with 2 dogs it can be destroyed quickly... ;-)

i have a great dane and a bull terrier. haven't really had issue with the rugs. you can also scotch guard them. mostly i just vacuum every freakin day lol.

Yeah short hair carpets are not really a problem I notice now, but previous carpets were longhair and the smell didn't go away :D
